Model Y is accelerating the localization process.
On March 23, according to Joyson Electronics, Tesla China recently added a total of 220 million yuan in central control electronics products to Joyson Electronics China, mainly from Joyson Electronics' Ningbo factory directly to Tesla. La Shanghai factory supplies.
On February 6, Joyson Electric announced that its subsidiary, Lingang Joyson Safety, received a letter of intent from Tesla China, and officially confirmed that Lingang Joyson Safety is a Tesla China Model 3 and Model Y supplier.
It is understood that Lingang Joyson Safety will provide Tesla China with steering wheel, airbag and other automotive safety system products. Tesla China forecasts that the total annual production of domestic Model 3 and Model Y will be about 300,000 vehicles. Based on this year's output accounting, the total amount of new orders for this project is about 1.5 billion yuan. Lingang Joyson Safety will start to supply them gradually in 2020. The order life cycle is about 3-5 years.
On January 7 this year, Tesla officially delivered the domestic Model 3 to 10 owners on the first anniversary of the groundbreaking of the Shanghai Super Factory. At the same time, Musk announced the official launch of the domestic Model Y project, marking that the construction of the Shanghai Super Factory will enter a new phase.
On March 15, 2019, Tesla released a new model ModelY, positioned as a compact SUV. Musk said that the Model Y functions like an SUV and drives like a sports car. One year later, Tesla officially launched ModelY delivery in North America, nearly half a year earlier than the actual delivery time.
Earlier, Tesla's financial report had announced that Model Y was about to be delivered in the first quarter. Musk revealed that the Fremont plant has prepared Model Y production conditions in advance, and the expected delivery schedule has been advanced from 2020 to the summer of 2020. There may be room for further advance, but full confidence in the summer delivery of 2020.
In order to improve and increase Model Y production capacity, according to foreign media reports, Tesla plans to modify the production line for the Fremont plant during this period to achieve a more optimized production level.
Not long ago, Musk stated on Twitter that Tesla had completed the 1 millionth electric car off the assembly line. From the delivery of the first electric sports car Roadster in 2008 to the 1 millionth electric car off the assembly line, it took Tesla 12 years. Among them, in 2019, Tesla's global sales reached 368,000, achieving growth for four consecutive quarters. Tesla officials have stated that they hope to reach the sales target of 500,000 units in 2020.
As Model Y officially begins delivery, it will help Tesla achieve its goal, but the Black Swan incident in 2020 adds uncertainty to this goal. Due to the impact of the epidemic, the delivery time of the domestic model 3 in the Shanghai plant was delayed. .
On the other hand, the United States has become the worst-hit area of the epidemic, and Tesla has had to temporarily suspend production of its Fremont plant in California and a plant in New York since March 24. The Fremont plant is not only Tesla's only vehicle plant in the United States, but also the sole manufacturing base for Model Y. The suspension of production means that the delivery of Model Y will be significantly affected.
In China, the epidemic situation has been effectively controlled, and Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory has resumed normal operations. As Tesla's localization is accelerating, localizing parts supply to reduce costs has become its important task.
It is reported that the domestic version of Model Y has also been rolled off the Shanghai factory and is expected to be officially delivered within this year. Musk believes that Model Y's final sales will exceed the total of all other Tesla models. It is expected that the initial annual production capacity of the Shanghai plant will be 150,000 vehicles and the annual production capacity will be about 300,000 vehicles.
