Apple uses AR / VR devices for the first time! Equipped with ToF 3D sensor, not iPhone

On January 14, according to the latest foreign media reports, Apple may apply AR / VR on the iPad for the first time. The device may be equipped with a 3D time-of-flight rear sensor, which is ToF. Although it is not specified which one, but combined with the previously leaked news, it is likely that it will be the upcoming iPad Pro 2020.

The application of ToF technology plays an important role in AR / VR which is currently in the bottleneck period. It can measure distance by emitting infrared light and draw a real-time 3D azimuth map. Compared to the 3D structured light used by Face ID, ToF has the advantages of small size, high accuracy, trackable object movement and built-in infrared light, and can also detect and map up to ten times the light point and distance.

The new iPad Pro 2020 is expected to have 3D camera, 3D recognition and 3D modeling functions. The specific innovations in virtual reality and augmented reality may not be known until at least the official debut in March. However, we can guess some information in advance from the renderings produced by the overseas blogger OnLeaks. In addition to the ToF sensor, the new iPad Pro may be equipped with three rear cameras. They may be arranged in a "Yuba" style, consisting of a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens, and an ultra-wide-angle lens, similar to the iPhone 11. The size may still include 11 inches and 12.9 inches, using aluminum alloy rear shell and glass rear shell, respectively.

AR / VR technology may redefine our lives in the future. The iPad Pro 2020 is the first time it is used in an Apple device. Let us wait and see how it will work. Have you purchased related equipment for AR / VR? Are you excited about the upcoming iPad Pro 2020?
