Free taxi! Baidu: Beijing self-driving taxi service is fully open

Because it is not easy to experience, many people feel that autonomous driving technology is still some distance away from us. However, this is not the case. In the context of continuous development and improvement of technology and regulations, the implementation of autonomous driving technology for civilian use has also accelerated.

According to news on October 12, we learned through online channels that from now on, Baidu’s self-driving taxi service will be fully opened in Beijing, and citizens can visit dozens of self-driving taxi stations in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, Haidian District, and Shunyi District. , No need to make an appointment, just place an order for a free trial ride of an autonomous taxi service.

Currently, Beijing has opened dozens of stations, among which the stations in the Economic Development Zone are the most dense, and the ride experience is more convenient than before.

After fully opening the self-driving taxi service in the city this time, open the Baidu map and select the options such as "Taxi-Autopilot-Select the station to get on and off-Select the number of passengers-Call Apollo GO immediately" and other options, you can directly book a taxi.

However, it is worth noting that when experiencing self-driving taxi services, you need to board at dozens of designated stops for getting on and off the car. On Baidu's independent APP Apollo GO, navigation services can be provided to guide users to quickly reach the nearest boarding point.

It is understood that the operating hours of Baidu's self-driving taxis are open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 16:00, except for statutory holidays. During the operating hours, the public can make reservations for free trial rides at open pick-up and drop-off stations. Dozens of autonomous taxis have been deployed in the Economic Development Zone.

Moreover, because it is currently in the trial operation stage, although it is an autonomous taxi, in order to ensure safety, each car is equipped with a safety officer.

In the case of normal automatic driving of the vehicle, the safety officer will not perform any control on the vehicle. However, security officers will pay attention to road conditions in real time to prevent emergencies.

According to the person in charge of Baidu, the total length of the Robotaxi test area opened in Beijing this time is about 700 kilometers, covering dozens of sites in the life circle and business circle of Yizhuang, Haidian, and Shunyi.

Beijing is also the third city where Apollo GO Robotaxi has opened up regular services after Changsha and Cangzhou.
