Huang Renxun issued a letter to NVIDIA employees: ARM continues to remain neutral

On September 14, NVIDIA officially announced that it will spend 40 billion US dollars (stock and cash) to acquire ARM to build the world’s top computing company in the AI era.

Tonight, NVIDIA founder and CEO Huang Renxun released a letter to employees. In the letter, Huang Renxun stated that from this moment on, we will join hands with ARM to build a leading computing company in the AI era.

AI is the most powerful technical force of our time. Learning from data, AI supercomputers write software that humans cannot write.

At the same time, what is surprising is that AI software can perceive its environment, infer the best solution, and execute it autonomously. Thanks to this, this new form of software will extend AI computing to every corner of the earth.

One day in the future, trillions of computers running AI will create a new Internet-the Internet of Things-thousands of times the Internet of people today.

Huang Renxun emphasized that it will continue ARM’s open authorization model, maintain its customer neutrality, and provide services to customers in various industries around the world.

The following is the full text of Huang Renxun’s letter to employees:

Hello everyone,

Today, we announced that we have signed the final agreement to acquire ARM.

Thirty years ago in Cambridge, England, a team of visionary computer scientists invented a new CPU architecture. With its optimized energy efficiency and authorized business model, the CPU architecture has been widely adopted. From smart phones, personal computers, cloud data centers to supercomputers, the ARMCPU designed by engineers can be found everywhere.

The number of computers using ARMCPU reached an astonishing 180 billion, and in last year alone, 22 billion computers were equipped with ARMCPU. ARM has become the most popular CPU in the world.

The CEO of ARM, Simon Segars, and his ARM team have created an excellent company that not only reshapes the entire computer industry, but also almost affects the entire world’s technology market.

From this moment on, we will work with ARM to build a leading computing company in the AI era.

We combine NVIDIA’s AI computing capabilities with ARM’s huge CPU ecosystem to seize the AI opportunities with unlimited potential and promote the development of cloud computing, smart phones, personal computers, autonomous vehicles, robots, 5G and the Internet of Things.

We will introduce NVIDIA’s world-leading AI technology into the ARM ecosystem, and at the same time increase the number of NVIDIA developers from 2 million to more than 15 million.

Our research and development scale will accelerate the pace of ARM’s roadmap and accelerate its expansion of opportunities in the data center, edge AI and Internet of Things.

ARM has an excellent business model. We will continue ARM’s open licensing model, maintain its customer neutrality, provide services to customers in various industries around the world, and use NVIDIA’s world-leading GPU and AI technology to further expand ARM’s IP licensing portfolio.

ARM’s headquarters will still be located in Cambridge, and will continue to be the cornerstone of the development of the British technology ecosystem. NVIDIA plans to retain the ARM name and strong brand identity. Simon and his management team have expressed that they are looking forward to joining NVIDIA.

ARM has laid a solid and extensive foundation for our investment in the UK. We will establish a world-class AI research center in Cambridge. Cambridge is the alma mater of Isaac Newton (Isaac Newton) and Alan Turing (Alan Turing), NVIDIA Turing GPU and Isaac robotic platform are named after them.

The NVIDIA AI research center we are about to establish here will become a leading AI supercomputer base powered by ARMCPU. The computing infrastructure here will be extremely attractive to scientists from all over the world who conduct pioneering research in healthcare, life sciences, robotics, autonomous vehicles, and other fields. The center will be our European hub for collaboration with universities, industry partners and start-ups.

In addition, the center will also become NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute for Europe (NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute for Europe), where we will teach you how to apply extraordinary AI technology.

The foundation co-founded by NVIDIA and ARM employees provides us with an excellent opportunity to build a leading computing company in the era of artificial intelligence. We are excited about the possibility of the merger of the two companies.

The future is here, and I can’t wait to meet it!

Huang Renxun
