Investment of more than 100 million US dollars: Panasonic plans to increase factories to increase Tesla battery production capacity

According to foreign media reports, Panasonic plans to increase the production capacity of Tesla batteries next year. It is estimated that the investment will exceed 100 million U.S. dollars and increase battery production capacity by about 10%.

According to reports, Panasonic will invest in the Gigafactory 1 battery plant. Gigafactory 1 is located in Nevada, USA. It was invested and constructed by Tesla and Panasonic. It has 13 production lines. Panasonic is mainly responsible for the battery production inside the factory.

Earlier, Panasonic invested US$1.6 billion in Tesla’s Gigafactory 1, which currently has an annual production capacity of 35GWh. And this time Panasonic will continue to increase the investment of 100 million US dollars for the plant. The new investment will bring a brand new production line to the plant and increase the annual production capacity to 39 GWh.

According to Panasonic’s official statement, this is also the first expansion of the Gigafactory 1 battery factory since 2017. At the same time, Panasonic will also upgrade the batteries produced at the factory, increasing the capacity of each battery by 5%. It is reported that this upgrade will be implemented from September 22, 2020, and this date also coincides with Tesla’s “Battery Day”.
