Some time ago, Sony officially announced the financial report for the first fiscal quarter of fiscal year 2020 ending on June 30 this year. The report disclosed data on Sony’s mobile business. Sony’s mobile phone shipments totaled 800,000 from April to June. Taiwan, although shipments decreased by 100,000 units year-on-year, it increased by 400,000 units month-on-month, an increase of 200%.
Compared with Samsung and other manufacturers, Sony Mobile’s 800,000 shipments is indeed not enough, even if it is obtained in China, it can only be counted among others, but for Sony Mobile, this is indeed very good news, and it can even be said. It is the best performance in recent years. According to Sony’s forecast, by the end of the 2020 fiscal year, the mobile communications business will achieve its first profit in four years, ending the embarrassing situation of four consecutive years of losses.
You should know that in 2018, Sony Mobile’s department loss reached 97.1 billion yen, or about 6.3 billion yuan. In 2019, Sony Mobile, which has undergone a lot of reforms and integration (at this time, has been merged into the consumer electronics department) still lost 211 Billion yen. It is already worth celebrating to be able to turn losses into profits in 2020. Although Sony did not disclose the specific forecasted profit scale, it is preliminary estimated that the entire consumer electronics sector will make a profit of about 60 billion yen.
What’s interesting is that Sony still insists that flagship mobile phones will be the core of the mobile communication business breakthrough, although the sales of mid-to-low-end mobile phones are the main driving force for this increase in shipments.
