DoNews evaluation on January 7 (Reporter Liu Wenxuan) In 2020, true wireless headsets will explode. Not only headset manufacturers, but almost all major mobile phone manufacturers have their own true wireless headset products. Active noise-cancelling headsets are no longer a new thing. Both headset manufacturers and mobile phone manufacturers have launched their own true wireless noise-cancelling headset products.
Sony’s WF-1000XM3 has been on the market as early as 2019. In terms of version number, this headset directly skips the second generation. Compared with the WF-1000X, the performance in all aspects is also a qualitative leap. Although Sony also launched a new headset last year, the true wireless series has not been updated. Now in 2021, is the WF-1000XM3 still worth buying? Experience it with DoNews.
In terms of appearance, Sony’s headphones introduced in recent years have adopted a streamlined design. The WF-1000XM3 also uses a rounded shape, an ergonomic design, and a three-point fixed structure supported by ear mechanics to make the wear more fit and stable.
WF-1000XM3 needs to be adjusted by hand to make it tighter when wearing it. Sony also provides earplugs of different sizes and two materials, which need to be replaced according to the size of the ear. The circular part on the side of the headset is a touchpad, which can be controlled by different gestures.
The bottom of the Sony WF-1000XM3 charging box uses a USB-C interface. The matte surface is more skin-friendly. It even feels a bit soft in the hand, and has a certain resistance, which is effective in anti-skid.
In connection with the charging box, the WF-1000XM3 adopts the form of magnetic attraction. Compared with the previous generation’s method of pressing and fixing, the WF-1000XM3 is also much faster in efficiency.
Sony WF-1000XM3 uses its own designed QN1e noise reduction chip. Unlike similar products that mostly use Qualcomm chips, this Sony QN1e chip can bring noise reduction capabilities similar to WI-1000X and MDR-1000XM3, providing noise reduction and environmental sound , Sound effects are turned off and other effects, and the mode can be changed through motion detection, or you can touch the trackpad on the headset to adjust.
Using the WF-1000XM3 in the office to turn on the noise reduction mode, you can still vaguely hear the voice of colleagues talking, but you can no longer hear the content of the conversation. For the noise of the air conditioner and keyboard sound, the filtering effect of this headset is also great. After turning on the music, you can listen to the content being played without any external interference.
In the ambient sound mode, you can clearly hear most of the surrounding sounds, but there is also a more obvious background noise, but this level of noise will not affect your conversation with others at all.
On noisy streets, wearing WF-1000XM3 and turning on the noise reduction mode can also filter out most of the noise. However, it is best to use the ambient sound mode when walking. It will instantly broadcast the sounds of nearby vehicles and pedestrians.
In terms of sound quality, the WF-1000XM3 only supports the AAC Bluetooth encoding protocol at the highest, but unfortunately there is no Sony’s own LDAC. In terms of specific performance, it can be considered quite satisfactory.
But compared to AirPods, the sound processing of WF-1000XM3 is quite good. To play Maria Takeuchi’s “Plastic Love” or Yuyun’s “New Treasure Island”, the bass is also powerful enough for general commuting and daily use. If you need more vivid effects, you can also set the EQ through the App.
In terms of battery life, this generation is much better than the WF-1000X.According to Sony’s official statement, the WF-1000XM3 headset can achieve a single battery life of about 8 hours when fully charged, and the charging box can provide 3 additional times Electric battery life brings about 32 hours of battery life overall.
When the noise reduction function is turned on, a single battery life is only shortened by 2 hours, and it can still bring 6 hours of use. With the charging box, it can achieve a total of 24 hours of battery life, satisfying a whole day of use.
In the actual experience, I wear this headset while listening to music while working. The Podcast lasts for about four hours. You can still listen to it on the way home from get off work. The sky is directly “resurrected with full blood”. During this period, there is no need to touch the charging cable, and there is no need to worry about forgetting to charge the headset.
In terms of charging, WF-1000XM3 also supports fast charging function, charging for 10 minutes can bring about 90 minutes of battery life, solving urgent needs.
Sony WF-1000XM3 achieves a perfect balance in terms of sound quality, portability, function and weight. The noise reduction effect is also very good, and the appearance is also greatly improved compared to previous products.
However, compared to similar products, the charging box is a bit larger, but the overall texture is handled very well.
Compared with the original WF-1000X, this WF-1000XM3 is the quality that the 1000X series should have. Noise reduction, comfort, sound quality are all available, and the battery life is also particularly long-lasting.
As a true wireless headset launched in 2019, Sony WF-1000XM3 already has quite a strong competitiveness, even if it is now a product worth starting.
